NewsOne is pleased to share our planned coverage for June, including several stories connected to America’s 250th anniversary.

Throughout the month, we’ll deliver pieces tied to key observances and national moments, with select stories helping build toward the July 4th celebration, when Disney and ABC News mark the nation’s 250th birthday with more than 24 hours of continuous programming.

Additional details on the full America 250 coverage plan will be shared in a separate advisory later this month.

Meanwhile, stations may air all pieces whenever they best fit your schedule once delivered. Unless otherwise noted, stories will be available at 4:00 a.m. on their scheduled release dates. Any changes will be communicated promptly.

America 250 Fact GRAPHICS

Beginning May 4th, we will launch a special America 250 journey, with 60 days of powerful moments in history, brought to life through (graphic) vignettes that reveal the people, ideas, and turning points that shaped who we are as a nation.

MONDAY, June 1: 

Start of Hurricane Season (VOSOT)

Hurricane season starts Monday, and officials say now is the time to get ready. They’re urging every household to be “One Week Ready,” with enough supplies to last seven days without help. And while NOAA is predicting a below normal season, forecasters still expect up to 14 named storms, including as many as three major hurricanes.

FRIDAY, June 5:

America 250 - In the Beginning - Freedom Hall National Memorial

New York City was the first capital of the United States under the U.S. Constitution, serving from 1785 to 1790. It hosted the first federal. Congress and George Washington’s 1789 inauguration at Federal Hall on Wall Street. While other cities hosted the Continental Congress earlier, NYC was the first under the new government. ABC’s Reena Roy will take us back to those days.​​​​​​​

TUESDAY, June 9:

Students Advocating for Youth Mental Health

The Jed Foundation, a leading nonprofit that protects emotional health and prevents suicide for teens and young adults nationwide, announced that Sarah Shelke of Cupertino, California and Kyra Wagner of Nashville, Tennessee are the 2026 Student Voice of Mental Health Awards recipients, honored for their exceptional advocacy on behalf of their peers and local school systems. We hear from both of the young advocates directly about their missions and impact.

THURSDAY, June 11:

America 250 - Native Americans – Role of Native Americans

Native Americans continue to face some of the most challenging conditions in the country, including high unemployment and limited access to broadband, running water, and housing on many reservations. Yet their influence on American life is profound, shaping the crops we grow, the medicines we use, and even inspiring elements of the U.S. Constitution.

We meet members of a Native nation as they share their stories through cultural demonstrations, crafts, food, and tradition.

TUESDAY, June 16:

Pride Month – Pride Across Generations

June is Pride Month, and we’ll examine how the meaning of Pride has changed across generations. Older LGBTQ+ Americans remember when living openly could come with serious personal and professional consequences. Today, younger generations are growing up with more visibility and acceptance, but also amid renewed political and cultural debates. Through their voices, this story looks at Pride as a celebration, a reflection, and a continuing call for equality.

THURSDAY, June 18:

America 250 - America The Melting Pot

America is called a "melting pot" because it is a premier global hub where people from different language backgrounds and countless nationalities have blended together for centuries.

FRIDAY, June 19:

Juneteenth (VOSOT)

Juneteenth has been celebrated for 160 years but only recognized as a federal holiday for five. As America prepares to mark 250 years, we look at the day known as America’s Second Independence Day.

THURSDAY, June 25: 

America 250 - America’s Promise on Paper

As America approaches 250 years, we visit Philadelphia, where the Declaration of Independence was adopted, to revisit the words that helped launch a nation.

We’ll look at the promise behind “all men are created equal,” how that promise has been tested, and what it means to Americans today.

THURSDAY, July 2:

America 250 - Evolution of Civil Rights

A 250-year look at America through the lens of Black civil rights, from the country’s founding promise of equality to the generations who fought to make that promise real. The story explores the progress made, the barriers that remain, and how the fight for civil rights continues to shape America today.

​​

FRIDAY, July 3:

America 250 - Naturalized Citizens

As America marks its 250th anniversary, one of the country’s most powerful promises is still unfolding in real time: the promise of citizenship. ABC’s Alex Stone will follow new Americans as they take the oath of citizenship, officially joining the nation at a historic moment.
